We at DIGILOOM understand that as a owner of handloom product, its maintenance and care is one of your major concern. So we decided to do a blog series on handloom care. In the first post of the series, we told you about How to wash the handloom sarees and garments at home. And in this post we talk about how to dry and iron the handloom products:
Drying after wash:
- Avoid direct sunlight. As this might lead to fabric discoloration. Always dry in partial shade.
- Never wring it to squeeze out the water to avoid permanent creases.
- Spread it out flat on a neutral surface to dry. Avoid painted surfaces, window sills, fences and rusty racks as they might stain the garment or the saree.
- Always wash and dry your saree separately. Else garment with bleeding colours may damage the saree.
- Every handloom garment or saree has its own instructions of dos and don’ts provided by the manufacturer/retailer. Always follow the instructions given.
Ironing
- Always press your sarees keeping the iron in medium to low heat.
- Never spray water on the handloom fabric or saree before ironing as it may leave permanent stains or marks on the fabric.
- Always keep the garment on an ironing board or a cotton cloth before pressing to avoid creases.
