How to Wash handloom Sarees and Stoles
- Soak the saree in salt water for some time(half an hour) before washing it. This prevents the natural colors of the sarees from bleeding.
- But do not soak it for a longer duration as it may lead to discoloration.
- After soaking, rinse the saree with cold water 2-3 times before washing it with detergent.
- Use good quality, mild detergents from reputed brands to hand wash your sarees.
- Never use bleach or any harsh chemical to remove the stain from a saree.
- Once detergent is applied, wash it off quickly. Don’t let the detergent stay for long on saree.
- Handwoven sarees are too delicate to use a brush on it. NEVER use a brush to remove the stain from handloom saree.
- Always use cold water.
- Never wash your handloom sarees in a washing machine.
Now that you are done with the washing. In the next post, I shall talk about “How to dry a handloom saree after wash”.
